Orthopaedic Surgery
Although most fractures are repaired under general anaesthesia, more simple fractures are now amenable to standing fracture repair using minimally invasive techniques. Typically, this involves inserting multiple bone screws in the standing sedated horse, thus avoiding the risks associated with recovery from general anaesthesia in the fractured patient.
Tenoscopy is a minimally invasive surgery designed to provide comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic solutions for tendon-related conditions in horses.
Our surgeons utilize tenoscopy as a powerful diagnostic tool to investigate the root cause of lameness. The high-resolution images captured during the procedure allow for accurate assessments of tendon and tendon sheath health, aiding in the formulation of targeted treatment plans. Through the endoscope, our surgeons can perform procedures such as debridement, removal of affected parts, and the application of regenerative therapies directly to the affected tendon, promoting optimal healing.
Equine tenoscopy is particularly beneficial for addressing conditions such as:
- Superficial and Deep Digital Flexor Tendon debridement
- Palmar/Plantar Annular ligament desmotomy
- Manica flexoria removal
- Infected tendon sheath lavage
Following the tenoscopy procedure, our clinic provides comprehensive rehabilitation support to aid in your horse's recovery. Our team will work closely with you and your referring veterinarian to develop a personalized rehabilitation plan, including exercise regimens and ongoing monitoring to optimize healing.
We believe in empowering our clients with knowledge. Our veterinarians take the time to explain the tenoscopic procedure, treatment options, and postoperative care, ensuring that horse owners are well-informed and confident in their decisions.
If your horse is experiencing lameness issues or if you suspect a tendon-related condition, contact us to schedule a consultation. Our veterinary team will assess your horse's unique needs and discuss whether equine tenoscopy is the right option for an accurate diagnosis and effective treatment.
